Product Description
The Alpine Series Pulsar is a synthetic climbing jacket for cold, damp conditions. Its proven combination of technical fabrics and fill is ideal above the snowline.PrimaLoft® Gold insulation is lightweight, water resistant, and exceptionally warm for its weight. It's made from 55% post-consumer content, and we've used it in two ways. There's more through the body for warmth where you need it, and a little less in the hood and arms so you can move freely.A Pertex Quantum outer maximises the insulation's efficiency and it's also made from 100% recycled nylon. It feels soft and light to touch, and a DWR finish encourages light rain and snow to bead roll off its surface.Underarm lift patterning ensures you can reach where you need to. The helmet-compatible hood is adjustable on the fly, and you can cinch the hem using the tabs in each hand pocket. Our Alpine Series is the result of our partnership with the New Zealand Alpine Team (NZAT). This team of elite mountaineers demand premium lightweight equipment that doesn't compromise performance. The main and inner fabrics, and the fill are bluesign® approved, which means they were manufactured with the responsible use of resources. -

Reviews
The new one is smart enough to wear when going out and the hood is great in the wind and rain.
Q&A
The fit is accurate to size for me. If you want to wear a bulky underlayer you may want to size up. For me that would make the sleeves too long. Best to try it on before buying.
Hi Jess,
Yes, this would fit under a Prophet, or you could also look at the Icefall Jacket too.
Thanks,
The Macpac Team
Yea you should be good for 0-5degrees if you’re layering well with other clothing and add beanie etc. I wouldn’t say this jacket is designed for that level of cold for long periods of time. I use it in 0 in winter but not for hours on end, just commute.
The Sundowner would be more suited for those temperatures for long period of time! I purchased the sundowner for my travel to Iceland and it worked perfectly!
I own both jackets and I intentionally purchased this one because it’s lighter weight and less warm as the sundowner. With and extra fleece layer underneath you can achieve the same warmth however. In SA I prefer to layer my clothing as the temperature is never consistently cold! LOVE the sundowner too, just too warm for SA temperatures, I would recommend using the sundowner in climates around 0deg, and the Pulsar in climates around 5-10deg.
Also prefer the Pulsar as it’s synthetic and I got drenched last night but it still kept me warm and dried quickly. Sundowner would find rain more difficult due to the duck down filling.
Hi Emily,
This jacket has synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation. These are equivalent to 750 fill goose down, please note we don't temperature rate clothing items.
Thanks,

Hi Brooke,
Yes, this jacket is vegan.

The outer fabric has some water repellency (i.e. a light shower will bead on the top) but it’s not strictly speaking water ‘proof’. However, if you’re caught out in a heap of rain the insulation is synthetic so you’ll still stay warm even if it wets out - the wonders of Primoloft! Definitely worth the money. Easier to care for than down as well.
Hi Melissa,
The main difference is a slightly different outer material, and the Pulsar is designed with a larger hood to be able to fit over a climbing helmet.
Thanks,
The Macpac Team
PrimaLoft, warm even when damp
